Introduction

Sustainability and Building Operations (SBO) is a department within Sustainability, Facilities, and Safety. Formed in July 2020, SBO is part of the larger portfolio of strategic departments in Administration and Finance at Georgia Tech.

SBO includes: the Office of Campus Sustainability, the Kendeda Building, the Coda Building Community Support Services Team, and the Building Operations focus area. By working at the intersection of sustainability and building operations, SBO strives to convene partners to identify, develop, prioritize, and facilitate conversations around sustainable ideas, practices, and building operations.

Strategic Plan for Sustainable Practice

In 2016-2018, the Georgia Tech community came together to draft guiding principles and a framework for operational sustainability in a strategic plan for sustainable practices. Learn more about key aspects of this planning initiative, which will be reviewed and aligned with the recently-released Institute Strategic Plan and Division strategic plan, to be published in the coming weeks.

Covid-19 asymptomatic surveillance testing

One of Sustainability and Building Operations’ first big initiatives as a team was to organize Covid-19 asymptomatic surveillance testing collections on campus for the Fall 2020 semester, including site logistics and contact tracing.

This initiative leveraged the partnerships that SBO strives to build with functional experts, service providers, and building managers across campus to deliver a fully operational testing collections program and support the related contact tracing and engagement initiatives.
