Welcome to SBO
Sustainability and Building Operations (SBO) is part of Infrastructure and Sustainability. SBO was created in July 2020 at the intersection of building operations and sustainable planning and practice.
- Strategic Sustainability and Partnerships
To partner with Institute and I&S leaders at multiple levels to help craft sustainability goals, develop and track targets, implement programs, and act as trusted advisors around sustainability and building operations
- Operational Planning
To work with and curate communities of practice on implementation of sustainable building practices, reducing operational barriers, and leveraging shared knowledge between groups
- Direct Services
To provide project services on Institute-wide initiatives, as well as direct building and administrative services on a portfolio of properties including: historical buildings, research spaces, leased properties and cutting edge sustainably designed buildings
Strategic Plan for Sustainable Practice
In 2016-2018, the Georgia Tech community came together to draft guiding principles and a framework for operational sustainability in a strategic plan for sustainable practices, which will be reviewed and aligned with the recently-released Institute and Division strategic plans.
Covid-19 asymptomatic surveillance testing
One of Sustainability and Building Operations’ first big initiatives as a team was to organize Covid-19 asymptomatic surveillance testing collections on campus for the Fall 2020 semester, including site logistics and contact tracing.
This initiative leveraged the partnerships that SBO strives to build with functional experts, service providers, and building managers across campus to deliver a fully operational testing collections program and support the related contact tracing and engagement initiatives.
